Welcome

It has a way to move you long after the moment has passed. It is more than a fleeting glance (as video tends to be) of a moment in time, and the more you look at it, the more you will see. With the power to excite, amuse, anger, and outrage, it is, and will continue to be an extremely powerful way of conveying the human experience.

I’m talking about still images. In this era of cell phone videos, You Tube, Go Pro and the like, the still image to me has more power to move you and convey a particular message. Weather it is photo journalism, nature and wildlife, or action sports. The ability to freeze that moment time, leaves a long lasting impression.

This is not to say that video is in any way a lesser medium, no, just different in how it presents events. There seems to be more of a sense of permanence to the still picture. You can hold it, and look at it for an extended period of time, and take in all that it has to offer. Even when you do that, the next time you look at it you will probably find something you didn’t see the previous time.

All of this and more are the reasons why I choose to shoot stills instead of video. It’s about capturing a moment of action in time. Making those who were not there, wish they had been. And when everything comes together just right, the results can be truly amazing.

Welcome to my vision, welcome to my blog.
